With 50 years of combined experience in the spirits industry, we’re using our passion for Brixton and rum to mix things up.

Our Story

The Brixton Distillery Company was founded in 2019 by two friends with a passion for rum. After years of working for one of the world’s largest drinks companies, Patrick Venning and Laurent Lacassagne wanted to create something meaningful and local, a brand with people at its heart.

The road to their first bottle of Market Row Botanical Rum was a little bumpy and included erecting a 2-tonne still in a first-floor distillery with a broken lift. Another notable bump was a plumbing mishap that meant the still was fed piping hot water instead of cold! However, despite all the challenges, the team (which by then included mater distiller Matt Servini and brand ambassador Mikey Hirsch) have never looked back.

The Brixton Distillery Company has been trading for over two years, survived a global pandemic, and Market Row Botanical Rum has won a silver IWSC award. Of course, this is not the end of our story, but we’re pretty chuffed with what we’ve achieved to date, all from our little distillery in the heart of Brixton.

PAT VENNING

Pat, the co-founder of The Brixton Distillery, is the head of the quality assurer (taster) at the heart of our blend.

MIKEY HIRSCH

Mikey is our Brand Ambassador and Apprentice Distiller. You will normally find him talking about our delicious botanical rum.

LAURENT LACASSAGNE

Our Co-Founder Laurent has over 30 years of experience in the spirits industry. Our success thus far is in no small part down to his visionary leadership.

MATT SERVINI

Our master distiller Matt Servini, has over 20 years of experience in the drinks industry, he has helped us craft our award-winning rum.

LIZZIE DULIEU RAYNER

Lizzie is our creative content and social media manager. With a background in film and editing, Lizzie’s creativity helps us showcase the soul of Brixton Distillery.

Brixton Bars & Restaurants

Since launching Market Row, we’ve enjoyed a fantastic reception from local bars and restaurants. The first six months of trade were majorly disrupted by lockdowns and of course, whilst this felt like an uphill struggle, it gave us exactly what we needed; time to get to know our immediate locals, business owners and customers. We will be eternally grateful for the continuous support from our local bars and restaurants in Brixton.

Our home is within Impact Brixton, a community-led co-working space full of many small businesses that share the same values of inclusivity and genuineness that we do.
